The Michigan Poverty Law Program (MPLP) is a cooperative effort of Legal Services of South Central Michigan and the University of Michigan Law School. MPLP provides state support services to local legal aid programs and other poverty law advocates.

The maximum number of authorized care hours is being decreased from 100 to 90 hours per pay period per child for all CDC providers. The maximum allowable provider billing limits is also being reduced for in-home day care aides, relative care providers, family and group child care homes.

Applicants and recipients must comply with all requests for action or information needed by DHS to establish paternity and/or obtain child support on behalf of children for whom they receive assistance, unless a claim of good cause for not cooperating has been granted or is pending. In the past, there was no sanction if good cause was not found and that person was ineligible for benefits. New policy states that the entire group will be sanctioned, including FIP cases whose grantee is ineligible or disqualified.
As of April, 2007, many applicants and recipients have had to produce specific documents to verify their identity and their U.S. citizenship. The Department of Human Services (DHS) has expanded the list of documents it will now accept as verification.
