The shelter deduction cap has been increased from $354 to $367. |
| Persons Affected: | FAP recipients and applicants who do not have a senior or disabled person in their household and have high shelter costs |
Background
Food Assistance Program (FAP - formerly Food Stamps) |
| What's Happening? | ||
FIA has raised the shelter deduction cap to $367. This increase will not impact households that include a senior or disabled person because those households are not subject to the cap. Households that have high excess shelter expenses and had shelter deductions at the cap of $354 will notice a small increase in their FAP grant as a result of the increased cap. |

What Should Advocates Do?
Advocates should begin using the $367 shelter deduction cap when they estimate FAP budgets for their clients. |
