Crime Victim Advocacy Center - Neighborhood Legal Services Michigan

Neighborhood Legal Services Michigan (NLSM) has an opening for a full-time staff attorney in its Crime Victim Advocacy Center.    

 

The Crime Victim Advocacy Center is a non-profit agency providing extensive legal services.  The center assist clients by completing victim compensation claims, filing of personal protection orders, providing criminal justice support, and providing financial assistance for crime victims. The staff attorney will provide legal service to clients that include conducting intake, providing counsel and advice, representation, and court appearances. 

 

The Crime Victim Advocacy Center’s attorney must be capable of performing the following essential duties and responsibilities:  conduct civil lawsuits;  draft legal documents; advise clients as to their legal rights,  and practice other phases of the law; take all reasonable steps to resolve client matters; assist in the supervision of paralegals, volunteers and interns; interview clients,  obtain case intake,  and file maintenance information;  and provide emergency legal and personal advocacy services as well as general legal information to crime victims.     

 

Applicants should be licensed to practice law in Michigan and must be in good standing with the State Bar of Michigan.  Applicants should demonstrate commitment to public interest and be dedicated to assist with the low income community.  Salary is negotiable.
